INTRO
A multimedia, interdisciplinary visual artist.
Debra's work ranges from installation to social practice art to concept design.
Projects reflecting her study of persistent social and moral issues are conceived as vehicles for accessing the unfamiliar, for triggering then nurturing processes of interdependence.
Drawing serves as a grounding that sustains a course of research. When it leads to an installation, the purpose is to stage transitional states that might elicit recognition in another moral reality.
The media and production processes, the incorporation of a venue’s architectural features, emphasize the interplay between perspective, scale, and context in imagery that embeds the visitor. Here representation might suspend expectations to become reflection. Each composition is comprised of variable, modular components whose assemblage, even partial, aims to spur the imagination to further inquiry.
Early studies in sculpture, archaeology, anthropology and environmental design as well as experience in participatory design also underpin a practice that includes concept design and development for institutions and industries in collaboration with scientists, scholars, poets, planners, architects, technicians and craftsmen.
